Séance – Real for Fake?

Many of us have seen séances on TV or in the movies. The table moves, bells ring, tapping noises respond to questions and even lights or a ghostly shape appears. Usually a woman screams and a message of death is heard in the horror films. Is this reality?

What is a séance? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, séance is “a spiritualist meeting to receive spirit communications”. Usually it is a group of people sitting around a table with a medium that is contacting spirits and relaying the messages to the group.

In the mid-nineteenth century, the popularity of séances grew. Some of the most well known séances were performed for Mary Todd Lincoln in the White House as she tried to contact her son after he died. Harry Houdini attended many séances to debunk them and prove the leaders were scam artists. He even performed his own séances using magic tricks. However, Harry did leave a code that only his wife, Bess, knew in case he did contact her from the spirit world. For 10 years after Harry’s death, Bess held a séance on Halloween but claims the code was never conveyed to her by any medium.

Crystal balls have been used in seancesThere are many psychics, mediums, clairvoyants, etc today that claim they can talk with the dead. There is even a television show, “Long Island Medium”, about Theresa Caputo’s life as a medium, and how she helps people by conveying messages from spirits to them. Theresa does perform group readings which some people may call a séance.

Séances have been performed in a number of ways. “Receiving messages”, a part of the Spiritualist religious, is when the minister or contact medium relates messages from the spirits to the living during the service. Sometimes a person stands on stage in front of an audience and gives messages to specific people from the afterlife. Best known séances are performed with a medium leader who communicates the spirit’s messages to the group. However, some séances are performed without a leader and many times using a Ouija board to receive a message from the deceased.

But do you hear the spirits talk, have the table levitate, etc. during a séance? Aromas of perfume, cigarettes, cooking, etc. maybe noticed. The room temperature may change. Some people say they feel a tickling feeling or a part of their body being touched. Noises, not normal to the room, may be heard. However, lights, ghostly apparitions, orbs and unknown voices are not a normal occurrence at a séance.

There are many criticisms and objections to séances. Scandal, scams and fraud have plagued séances for years. Also, children, people with negative attitudes towards the process and people looking for entertainment should not attend a séance because they hinder the spirits from talking or may attract dysfunctional spirits. Like people there are good, bad, and dysfunctional spirits. Also make sure the medium leading the séance has several years of experience and is well known.

If you are interested in attending a séance, psychic Gary St. John will be performing one at Seeds of Wellness on Wed, November 19, 2014, at 7:00 pm. Reservations and payment must be made in advance because seating is limited.

Wellness – What’s It All About?

September this year is a month full of health related observances from Alzheimer’s to farm safety. These observances are recognized throughout the world, on a national level or by specific organizations and communities. We are seeing more and more articles, books, TV programs, etc. that focus on health and wellness. So what is wellness?

Man balancing on high wireDefinition of “wellness” according to Merriam-Webster dictionary: “the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal <lifestyles that promote wellness>”. But what exactly does that mean?

Many times “wellness” refers to a balance of mind, body and spirit, which results in a feeling of overall well-being. This includes mental, physical, spiritual, social, environmental and occupational aspects of our lives. Keeping all of these aspects in balance for most of us is a challenge.

There are many books and health practitioners that promote wellness to help prevent disease. Mostly they talk about having your weight at the right BMI, exercising, getting enough sleep, watching what you eat, dropping bad habits like smoking and drinking and, of course, seeing your doctor at least once a year. This isn’t realistic for me. How about you?

If you are like me, you can come up with many excuses for not doing one or more of these items. The main one for me is exercise. Let’s face it; we are our own worst enemies. Some people may attribute this to laziness, low self-esteem or lack of self-motivation. However, I think it is about what we feel is important in our lives today.

However, we can make small changes in our lives when necessary to help stay happy and as healthy as possible. By educating ourselves about food, medication, exercise techniques and other products, we can make better choices to help improve our wellness. Laura Crooks, a RN and certified wellness coach has seven tips to achieve wellness is all areas of our lives*. They are listed below:

Mom and son washing their dog outside

  • Surround yourself with positive and supportive people.
  • Weed out things and relationships that do not support you.
  • Have what you want AND want what you have.
  • Practice gratitude.
  • Care for your body: eat well, sleep well, exercise.
  • Know your values, and live them.
  • Find activities that give you a sense of purpose and connectedness.

For once I have found wellness tips that I don’t find unachievable or unrealistic. What about you?

I don’t think we can achieve wellness overnight, but by focusing on one aspect of our lives at a time, we can work towards wellness and happiness. It is all up to you.

How to Prolong Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Batteries Lifespan

Lithium-ion batteries are found in laptop computers, cell phones, electronic cigarettes and more. These batteries hold a longer charge and carry a higher voltage than nickel cadmium and alkaline batteries. Unlike lithium batteries, lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable. This makes these batteries the best solution for electronics requiring high energy and long battery life.

Lithium-ion batteries produce energy as ions move between the positive and negative electrodes. As the battery ages its performance decreases due to environmental conditions, discharge/charge cycles and use. As a result, the life of most lithium-ion batteries is 300 to 500 discharge/charge cycles.

Below are tips to help prolong lithium-ion batteries lifespan:

  • Smart phoneAllow partial discharges and charges. Lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory like NiCad batteries. Several full discharges in a row put a strain on the battery that reduces its life.
  • Fully discharge of lithium-ion battery after 30 charges or once a month. A condition called “digital memory” occurs when a battery has continuous partial discharges. By recharging the battery after it has reached the discharge “cut-off” point, the power gauge is recalibrated to show the correct discharge life on the fuel gauge in the electronic.
  • Unplug the battery when it is fully charged. By leaving it plugged in once it is fully charged, the battery health degrades because the charger may continues to try to charge the battery even when it is at 100%. Read the battery manual to be sure the charger stops charging after the battery is full if you want to keep it on the charger overnight.

  • Expose to extreme heat for long periods of time. For instance – left inside the car during warm temperatures, stored near a heating vent, setting out in the sun for long periods of time, etc. Heat is the number one reason for shortened lithium-ion battery lifespan.
  • Store or charge in areas of high humidity. It is not recommended that you have your cell phone in the bathroom while you shower or charge the electronic near the laundry area. Water can get inside the battery and reduce the lifespan.
Continue using a lithium-ion when it is at the “cut-off” point. When you completely discharge a lithium-ion battery beyond the “cut-off” point, a safety circuit in the battery is activated, and it will not charge using the original charger.
  • Fully discharge the battery frequently because it puts a strain on the battery and shortens the amount of time it holds a charge.
  • Store the battery for a long period of time at a 100% charge because the oxidation of the battery is at its highest rate. Instead store the battery with a 50%-40% discharge in a dark cool location.
  • Use a charger that did not come with the battery. Lithium-ion batteries require a specific charge rate and voltage to avoid damaging or overcharging the battery.
  • Charge to 100% all the time. Lithium-ion batteries retain a longer lifespan when charged between 40% and 80% on a regular basis.

Premium Vapes electronic cigarette batteriesMost lithium-ion batteries are partially charged at the factory. Make sure you read the manual for the electronic for initial charging instructions. For example, some manufacturers tell you to place the electronic on the charger for 24 hours before the first use. Some electronic cigarette lithium-ion battery instructions say to use the battery until it indicates that it needs to be charge. Premium Vapes recommend fully charging the battery for 3-5 hours the first time it is charged to receive optimal battery life. After the initial charge, Premium Vapes does not recommend leaving the battery on the charger for long periods of time or overnight.

Wind Chimes: History and Purpose

I have always been fascinated by wind chimes and love hearing their sound as the wind blows by them. My earliest memory of wind chimes is the small metal one that hung inside my grandmother’s home in the doorway leading from the living room into the rest of her small house.

Wind chimes consist of suspended tubes, rods, bells or other objects that make a noise when the wind blows causing them to hit each other. Usually hung outside, wind chimes are used as visual ornaments and for the pleasant sounds they make. Some wind chimes use a central clapper or ringer shaped like a ball or disk that strikes the chimes as the windcatcher hanging below it catches the breeze.

Wind chimesWind chimes have been around for thousands of years. Archeologists have unearthed wind chimes in Southeastern Asia, Greece and Egypt made from bones, shells and stones. Around 1100 B.C., the wind chime became modernized by the Chinese with the use of different sized tonal iron bells that they used in their religious ceremonies. Wind chimes are also found early in Buddhists history as an integral part of their rituals and hung from the eaves, walls and ceilings of their sacred structures.

The use of wind chimes moved from China to Japan and into the western world by the 1800s. Europeans and Americans were influenced by Asia art, design and philosophy. The practice of Feng Shui continued the spread of wind chimes into the home.

By the 1970s, wind chimes gained popularity as companies began producing sophisticated and precision-tonal musical chimes. Some are even produced with a specific cultural tuning as seen in Japan, Bali and Hawaii.

Today wind chimes are seen both inside and outside, integrated in rituals and ceremonies and heard in music, including some of the Beatle’s songs. Wind chimes are also used for decorative purposes in homes and businesses.

I don’t remember hearing or seeing wind chimes very often as a child. Perhaps that is why the one at my grandmother’s house fascinated me so much. My parents started hanging wind chimes outside on the porch when I was a teenager. However, since the 1980s every place I’ve lived the sound of wind chimes are heard throughout the neighborhood. Some people have five or more that create a symphony of sound as the wind blows by.

Variety of wind chimesThe Romans believed the sound of bells kept evil spirits away. The same is true for the Chinese who hung them on the corners of the pagodas and temples to frighten away birds as well as evil spirits and attract benevolent ones. Today the Chinese believe wind chimes connect people to nature and themselves to bring greater awareness and to live in the moment.

In many parts of Asia, wind chimes are thought to bring good luck and are used in Feng Shui, the arrangement of objects to achieve harmony and peace in a home or garden. Many teachings of Feng Shui say that wind chimes cure negative energies, provide protection and bring calm and balance to people.

By observing a wind chime, you can see the changes in the wind’s direction and strength as well as being a signal for oncoming storms. This made them an effective tool for sailors, loggers and farmers. Farmers also use wind chimes in their fields to scare away birds and other pests.

Many people today hang wind chimes in doorways and windows to keep bad luck from entering their home. Wind chimes hung in the front door can also alert you when someone enters. In movies, the sound of wind chimes and bells signals danger.

For me, hearing the sound of wind chimes during a calm breeze brings me peace. I enjoy sitting outside on a warm summer day listening to the chimes, drinking ice tea and reading a book. However, when the wind is blowing hard, the sound keeps me alert, on edge and ready to take the wind chime down to stop all the noise. I can see how this helped forecast the weather and scare way pests.

Massage – What Are the Benefits and Risks?

There are many types of massage techniques, but they all revolve around the same principle: the kneading and stroking of muscles and other soft tissue to improve health and well-being. Various types of massage oil may be use to help reduce friction and nourish the skin.

Massage has been used as part of healing for centuries in nearly every culture. However, in the early 20th century, massage therapy was overshadowed by prescription drugs and the rise of technology. With the increased interest in alternative medicines, healing through the use of massage has grown since the 1970s.

Massage has been generally used to reduce tension, stress and fatigue while improving circulation. Below is a list of benefits you may receive:

  • Man receiving a massagePromote relaxation
  • Reduce back and migraine pain
  • Enhance the immune system
  • Improve flexibility and relieve tight muscles and muscle spasms
  • Nourish the skin
  • Increase circulation
  • Relieve tension and stress
  • Cleanse the body of toxins
  • Improve emotional well-being
  • Aid in athletic performance and speed recovery

As long as massage is performed by a trained therapist, there are few risks. Side effects can include pain or discomfort, bruising, swelling and sensitivity to massage oils. You should always tell the massage therapist about any health conditions, allergies and pregnancies before you start a session.

 Greg Kendzior, LMT

It is suggested that you drink plenty of water after the massage to help remove toxins from the body that are loosened during the massage. Stretching or taking a warm bath before the massage can help loosen your muscles, which improves the therapist ability to manipulate the muscles.

If you are interested in receiving a massage treatment, Greg Kendzior, LMT, is at Seeds of Wellness once a month.  Click here or call to learn more.

How Can Reflexology Improve My Health?

Thousands of years ago in Egypt and China a healing technique using the hands in reflex areas was used. It was introduced to the US in 1913 by Dr. William Fitzgerald, an ear, nose and throat specialist, and Dr. Edwin Bowers. Eunice Ingham, a nurse and physiotherapist, modified the technique in the 1930s and 1940s, which is now called “zone therapy” and is the main technique used today in the US. People who practice reflexology must be certified according to the laws of their state. In Ohio, the certification for reflexology is the same as a person practicing massage.

Foot reflexology sessionReflexology is an alternative medicine, which a person applies pressure to specific areas of the feet, hands or ears using thumb, finger and hand techniques. It is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders. The philosophy behind reflexology is that the hands & feet mirror all the organs, glands & parts of the body. The pressure prompts change to the related part of the body and helps stimulate healing to that area. It is similar to acupuncture, but no needles are used.

The major benefit of reflexology is the reduction of stress because the hands and feet help set the tension level for the rest of the body. As the hands and feet relax during a reflexology treatment, the rest of the body relaxes as well. Therefore, any stress related conditions like headaches, migraines, constipation, sleep issues, etc. improve after a treatment.

Other benefits include the following:

  • Reduces many pains/ills in the body
  • Increases energy and motivation
  • Improves circulation and digestion
  • Enhances mental clarity and focus
  • Increases recovery time after surgery and cancer treatments
  • Helps with detoxification of the body
  • Encourages overall healing within the body

If you have a stressful job, currently feeling stress in your personal life or both, reflexology will help. Research has shown that many health issues begin with stress. By having regular reflexology sessions during stressful times in your life, your body will handle the stress better because it brings your body back into balance and helps the body heal itself.

Seeds of Wellness offers reflexology once a month. Call Seeds of Wellness or go to our News webpage to learn more. To learn more about our regular services, please see our Services webpage.

Why Should I Have a House Blessing and Cleansing?

Your house and belongings absorbs energy like a sponge, both positive and negative, and holds onto that energy. This energy reflects and affects the people and animals living there. The energy can change when guests visit, when your emotions are altered for an extended period of time and when drastic changes occur in your life. Depending on the situation, the energy will become more positive or negative similar to the odor of a sponge changing with each use.

House Blessing

Cross on the bibleMany religions and cultures perform blessings of the home. The blessing of a household is mentioned in the bible (2 Samuel 6:12, Psalm 4:8) asking for God’s favor and protection. However, the blessing can be religious or nonreligious and is also known as a spiritual house warming.

During the blessing, prayers are said out loud or silently for peace, love and protection, holy water or bless water may be sprinkled in each room and on the outside of the home, and some ceremonies involve incense (commonly frankincense and/or myrrh), holy oil and/or candles. The blessing helps release the negative energy within the home and promotes positive energy and balance. It also helps protect from future outside negative influences and energy.

House Cleansing

Like house blessings, the house cleansing (sometimes call house clearing) removes negative energy and brings positive energy and harmony into the home. Some people also cleanse the home to remove unwelcome spirits, which may or may not work. The house cleansing is intended to clear out all negative energy, curses and entities from the home.

Most house cleansing involves smudging, the burning of sage or sandalwood incense to remove negative energy from each room. Smoke absorbs the negative energy and carries it away. Sea salt, cedar, sweetgrass, candles, bells, singing bowl, rattles and/or drum may also be used during a house cleansing.

For centuries, house blessing and cleansing have been done to cleanse, renew, protect and consecrate the home or business. Many think of it as an “environmental healing”. After the ceremony is complete, there is a feeling of balance, peace and happiness. The blessing provides protection from unwanted outside influences.

Some reasons for doing a house blessing and cleansing at your home or work:Moving into a new house

  • Moving into a new home
  • Working in a new office
  • Preparing for a new baby
  • Helping clear home after a period of sadness or negativity
  • Removing energy after a social gathering
  • Changing energy after a renovation or major cleaning
  • Bringing many new items into the home, especially antiques or second-hand items
  • Experiencing a bad or traumatic event in your home or at work
  • Starting a new job
  • Sensing spiritual or ghostly presence

House blessing and cleansing can be done separately or together. However, house blessing does not remove negative spirits or entities. It only clears negative energy and provides protection. Most of the time, house blessings and cleansing are done together to remove negative energies and influences, provide protection from future outside negative influences and promote love, peace and harmony.

Above all, the house blessing and cleansing is about your intent. During the ceremony, a positive intent must be kept in order to remove ALL negative energy. This means your thoughts and feelings must be focused on the positive. For this reason, many people choose to hire someone to perform the house blessing and cleansing instead of doing it themselves. Also, if you feel there is a negative entity in your home, please consider hiring someone who has experience with ghost or asking your priest to perform the ceremony.

After the ceremony, the atmosphere in the home is like a fresh clean sponge ready to absorb prosperity, happiness, friendship, growth, peace, luck and protection.

Who Can I Hire?

Lynne Hamilton and Brenda Mayo, co-owners of Seeds of Wellness, offer house blessing and cleansing services. We are able to do the ceremonies separately or together depending on your needs.

Brenda provides the house cleansing from a Native American tradition. She smudges each room using white sage as she envisions white light washing the room of negative energies and entities while thanking Great Spirit for cleansing the home and providing protection. If you do not want the smoke from the sage in your home or work, Brenda will spray a light mist of water infused with white sage to provide similar cleansing as smudging offers.

Praying handsLynne uses her religious beliefs as she blesses and mists the home with blessed water while saying prayers for love and protection in each room. If you prefer a less religion blessing, Lynne is able to generalize her prayers to be specific to the house and people living within it.

When combined with the house cleansing, Lynne sprinkles sea salt in each room and on the window sills to seal out the negative energy. Sea salt is also used at the doorways and around the outside of the home to keep the negative energy and entities from going back into the home and provide protection from outside influences. A mixture of sea salt and water can be used instead of sea salt alone if you prefer the salt to not be visible.

Difference Between PG and VG E-Liquids

Most e-juices or e-liquids contain PG (propylene glycol), VG (vegetable glycerin), water, nicotine and food grade flavorings. There are several flavors of e-liquids to choose from, but there are also different blends of PG and VG on the market. Do you know the difference?

What is PG and VG?

Mixing ingredients in a test tubePG, Propylene Glycol, is a slightly syrupy clear and colorless liquid that has little odor or taste. It is a FDA approved chemical used in a wide variety of products for more than 50 years including cough syrup, cookies, cigarettes, beer, shampoo, cosmetics, fog machines and asthma inhalers. Used as a stabilizer, PG holds things together, keeps items from evaporating and helps food stay moist. When PG is in the body, it is quickly converted to lactic acid, similar to sugar and eliminated through our urine. Clear here to learn more.

VG, Vegetable Glycerin or Vegetable Glycol, is a thicker liquid than PG, derived from plant oils (commonly soy, coconut and palm) and has a slight sweet taste. VG is also FDA approved and found in skin care products, pet food, bake goods, medication and dental products. Also, VG can be used as a sugar substitute. When in the body, VG quickly metabolizes into CO2 and H2O.

Why are PG and VG in electronic cigarettes?

Both PG and VG hold the nicotine and food grade flavors similar to the way carrier (cooking) oils hold herbs and essential oils. When the e-liquid is heated, the food grade flavorings and nicotine are released into the vapor. Most e-juices contain both PG and VG in varying amounts to get the benefits of both liquids. Some flavorings used in e-liquids contain PG as a carrier liquid before being added to the e-juice.

In electronic cigarettes, PG increases the boiling point of the water in the e-liquid, so the amount of heat needed to convert the water into a vapor is less than the heat needed to burn a cigarette. Due to the lack of flavor in PG, the flavorings added to it are not affected by the PG liquid, resulting in a stronger flavored e-liquid than VG based e-juices. Also, the thinness of PG makes it easier to draw the e-liquid into the wicks or polyfill fabric of the cartridge, and the e-juice doesn’t buildup on the heating coil as quickly as VG. The main affect of PG that most e-cig users enjoy is the strong throat hit that is similar to smoking a cigarette. Also, PG produces a less dense vapor cloud than VG.

Research since the 1940’s has found PG to be safe when inhaled. The most common side effects from inhaling PG are sore throat, increased thirst and dry mouth. These side effects usually last for a couple of days to a week as the body gets use to PG. However, there are rare cases of allergic reactions to PG.

PG vs VG e-liquids

Unlike PG, vaping VG results in less of a throat hit and produces a denser vapor cloud. The sweetness of VG dilutes the food grade flavorings and causes the e-juice to have a sweeter taste. However, due to the thickness of e-liquid, VG does buildup on the heating coils faster than PG e-juices, which reduces the life of the atomizers and heating coils. The thickness of VG requires high temperatures to convert the liquid to a vapor resulting in a shorter battery life and longer time for the e-liquid to be absorbed by the wicking materials.

Side affects to inhaling VG are similar to PG, but VG is hypo-allergenic and non-carcinogenic. If your throat is irritated when using PG based e-liquids, it is suggested that you change to a higher ratio of VG to PG based e-juice.

DuraSmoke e-liquidsNot all e-liquids tell you the ratio of PG to VG in there bottles. This is due to slight ratio changes with the increase in nicotine and food grade flavorings, and/or the company wanting to keep their blend information secret from their competitors. However, you can always ask if the e-juice is PG or VG based.

Seeds of Wellness carries American made e-liquids by eVo and DuraSmoke to offer our customers both a PG and VG based e-juice. DuraSmoke offers VG based and 50/50 blend e-juices while eVo e-liquids are all PG based. Call or stop in to learn more.

Tea – Its Not Just for Drinking Anymore

There are thousands of different types of tea in the world with different flavors and aromas. However, it all comes from a variety of the same type of plant (camellia Sinensis) and can be put into these main types:

  • Field of tea plantsBlack – bold and fuller flavor than the other teas
  • Green – mainly from Japan and China with a bold or mellow flavor
  • Oolong – complex and nuanced flavor
  • White – mild, subtle and delicate flavor
  • Red – from Africa

Tea isn’t just for drinking anymore. Many restaurants add it to their dishes to bring a new flavor and aroma to a classic recipe. Because tea leaves are edible, you can use them in a variety of ways. Tea adds a new flavor to any dish, simple or complex. For the best results, cook only with the teas you love to drink and let your chef’s imagination soar.

Use Tea as a Spice

Put tea leaves in a pepper mill, grinder or mortar and pestle and add it to your favorite dishes along with your other spices. It is great as a rub for meat, fish and vegetables. You can even add it to your salad for a new flavor.

Add Tea to Marinade

Tea leaves and brewed teaInstead of throwing your tea bag away after you brewed a cup, save it and add the bag into your marinade. You can also use brewed tea water or ground the leaves in your marinade. Tea even tenderizes the meat for that melts-in-your-mouth effect.

Increase Food’s Aroma

One of the things we love about food is the aroma. Substitute water with brewed tea in any of your dishes. It helps add a new aroma and taste to your food including rice, soup and vegetables. You can also add it to your meat and vegetable coating recipes.

Include Tea in Bake Goods

Want to add a new taste to your muffins, cakes or cookies, think about adding tea. You can even add it to the frosting or glaze. (1 tsp ground tea to every 1 cup of flour for additional flavor.) If your recipe calls for melted butter, add a tea bag to the pan of melted butter and let it steep for several minutes before removing the bag, and then add the butter to your recipe.

To get the most benefits from tea, it is best to use a whole-leaf tea because it retains more essential oils and nutrients in the leaves – the basis of the tea’s flavor and aroma. Typical grocery store tea bags contain a blend of different types of teas, and the quantity of each type can vary based on their cost.

Not only does tea provide a new taste and aroma to your food, you benefit from the essential vitamins and antioxidants in it as well. Remember, if the tea is caffeinated, your dish is also caffeinated. Tea is a subtle flavor that compliments most ingredients, making it difficult to misuse!

How Hot Is It? Safety Tips to Stay Cool

It is so hot I wouldn’t be surprised if we could cook on our car hoods and truck tailgates.

We hope that everyone has air conditioning or somewhere to go when the heat and humidity is too much. Please don’t forget about the elders and ailing loved ones and of course, your pets.

Tips to deal with the heatHere are some heat safety tips:

It is very important to increase your fluid intake in this heat. When doing heavy exercise outside or in a hot place, make sure you drink at least a bottle of cool water every hour. Very cold beverages can cause stomach cramps, so avoid adding too much ice if you are sweating or doing heavy exercise.

Drink fruit juice or sports beverages during exercise in the heat. When you sweat, salts and minerals are removed from the body, which your body needs for optimum health. Do not use salt tablets without your doctor’s directions

Slow down. Reduce strenuous exercise or reschedule to the cooler times of the day. Start slowly and gradually increase the pace to allow your body to get use to the heat. Stop all activity when your heart starts pounding, you are short or gasping for breath, feel light headed or weak and get to cool or shady location as soon as possible. Note: electric fans alone do not prevent heat-related illness.

How to make sun teaTo read more about heat safety tips, heat-related symptoms and what to do in case of a heat-related emergency, please click here.

For a cooling summer drink, place 8 tea bags of your favorite tea in 2 quarts of hot water. Let it sit in a sunny location for 3 to 5 hours. Taste once in awhile to check the flavor. When at the desired strength, place the container in the refrigerator. Add lemon and/or orange slices, berries, mint, etc. different flavor combinations depending on the tea.

Stop into Seeds of Wellness and check out the two leaves and a bud teas. Due to their stronger flavor, you may want to use only 6 tea bags instead of 8 to make your ice tea.

See our products web page to learn more about two leaves and a bud whole leaf teas.
