Reiki.. What Is It? How Does it Heal?

Reiki is an alternative form of healing known as energy work. People who practice any form of meditation or prayer can attest to the subtle energy they may feel flowing through them. Ancient knowledge tells of a life force, or Chi that flows through us, and science is now beginning to understand that this force is tangible and indeed does exist. Reiki is similar to Tai Chi, in that it works with the human energy field. Chi and Ki mean the same thing. Energy. Feng Shui also works along these same principles.

Blocked energy can result in back painOur bodies are comprised of physical elements as well as an energy system that allows the life force to flow thru us, allowing us to feel and think. This energy system, known as chakras, acts as regulators and allows the energy to flow freely through our spiritual, emotional and physical being. There are seven major chakras, starting with our crown, and ending with our tailbones. These are the energy centers we focus on with Reiki. When we have a disease, illness or stress, our chakras become out of balance. Reiki puts the balance back into the chakras, allowing the body to heal itself.

Stress is one of the main causes of energy to be blocked, causing all sorts of problems from low back pain to headaches. The use of Reiki can greatly increase the body’s ability to deal with stress, helping to prevent and alleviate disease. The Cleveland Clinic is currently conducting studies on the use of Reiki in dealing with stress, as well as studying the affects of Reiki on prostate cancer.

Healing with Reiki involves the practitioner placing hands on the chakras, or on the area of discomfort to transmit subtle energy into the affected persons energy system. The process allow the reduction of stress, allowing the energy balance to be restored. During the treatment, the recipient may feel a lot of comforting heat or a gentle vibration. This makes the recipient feel relaxed and at peace, and it is not uncommon for the person to drift into a meditative state or drift off to “sleep”, waking refreshed and and usually pain free. The full body treatments generally last up to a week. “Spot” treatments have also proven to be successful, but full body treatments are recommended to bring balance to the whole person.

Reiki helps your body get back into balanceSome of the benefits of Reiki are:

  • Accelerates the healing process
  • Removes toxins from the body
  • Helps bring relaxation, promoting healing
  • Increases the flow of energy
  • Alleviates pain
  • Brings emotional and spiritual balance
  • Brings a sense of peace and well being
  • Assists in tolerating treatments such as chemotherapy

(Information from Gina Tatsumi, Reiki Master – www.thereikiroom.info)

Reiki is also performed on animals to help balance their energy and promote healing with their body. They experience the same benefits as we do from Reiki treatments.

Seeds of Wellness offers Reiki treatments for people and animals. Please go to our News page to learn when Reiki is offered and how you can sign up for a session for yourself or your pet.

Healing with Tuning Forks

Tuning ForkFor centuries, many cultures used sound in their healing practices. Our bodies respond to sound both physically and energetically. Like musical instruments, your body can become out of tune / balance. Tuning forks provide a way to bring the body back into harmony by altering your body’s biochemistry. This brings your nervous system, muscle tone and organs into balance within seconds while allowing your body to enter a deep state of relaxation.

When a tuning fork is struck, the air around the fork vibrates and sends out vibrating pulses. These pulses stimulate the body and promote healing. Read more about sound healing at HarmonicSounds.

Who Uses Tuning Forks?

Many practitioners in the Healing Arts use tuning forks for balance and harmony within the body and enhance the healing effects of other energy therapies they may be using. These practitioners can also be involved in one or more of the following:Man receiving a massage

It’s Tough to Get Old – Mystic’s Struggles

I was writing a blog about pendulums for this month, but with the latest problems Mystic, our four-legged employee, is having, I decided to let you know about her struggles instead. I will complete the pendulum blog later in the month, so watch our website for the post after October 19.

Seeds of Wellness dog, MysticOn Monday, September 30, 2013, Mystic couldn’t get up. I put a sling under her belly to help her stand up and support her as she walked in order for her to go outside that morning.  Watching her struggle and silently deal with pain made my heart cry.

Mystic ruptured a ligament in her left knee about two month prior to this, so Lynne and I feared that her knee would no longer support her 67 lb. body. Of course, Seeds of Wellness didn’t open that day since we focused all our energy and attention on Mystic. As soon as the doctor’s office opened, I called for the earliest appointment. Getting her into the car was easy, but getting her out was another story.

Several vet techs came to the car to see how they could help Mystic get out without hurting her. Luckily, my Honda Fit’s back seats fold up, which allow Mystic to lie on the floor of the car. Having more room to move around, allowed the vet techs to get the sling under Mystic, lift up her back legs and get her out one of the doors. I laughed to myself as I watched her look behind her body at the sling and vet tech while her front legs moved her forward without her back legs touching the ground. It was obvious that she didn’t know what to make of this situation.

Nervously, Lynne and I sat waiting for the vet. Lynne was sick all night and still not feeling well, so this kept her mind off her own issues. The vet tech put a large black foam cushion down on the floor for Mystic to lie on instead of the slippery tile. During the exam the vet tech tried to hold her down while the doctor manipulated her hips and legs.

Mystic’s pain became obvious when she nipped at the vet tech while struggling to get away. For the first time, Mystic had to be muzzled. I kept my tears back as I watched the vet tech hold her down while the doctor continued to move her back left leg, knee and hip. They lifted her up with the sling to see how much weight she could support, watch her gate as she walked and check her ability to feel her paw placement.

The one thing the doctor knew for sure, the inflammation in Mystic’s left knee and hip didn’t allow her to put any weight on the leg. Mystic’s other back leg didn’t have the strength to completely support her as she stood or walked. Everyone decided to have Mystic stay there for pain treatment and to be evaluated in the morning by her main doctor, who didn’t work on Mondays.

Mystic at Seeds of Wellness
Later in the day, I called to see if there was any change, but there wasn’t. Mystic was receiving ice treatments on her back hip and knee and given an inflammation and pain medication. Due to Mystic’s seizure and thyroid issues, the medications available for her are limited.

Tuesday morning I received a call from her main doctor. Mystic showed some improvement, but still needed help to stand with the sling and supported when walking long distances. To help Mystic get back on her feet, the vet suggested Adequan injections, to reduce the inflammation and arthritic pain in Mystic’s left hip due to the hip dysplasia. The injections also promote cartilage formation to help increase healing. With Mystic’s limited mobility, continuation of the ice treatments and the Adequan injection, she stayed at the vets another day.

The afternoon phone call came with encouragement. Mystic was walking short distances with no support and improved mobility. She still needed help getting up, however. Her doctor also added Vetri-E.N.S.E.D., a natural herbal supplement for pain, inflammation, mobility and flexibility, to her medication list.  This news helps lift my spirit. By now I missed Mystic so much and felt lost without her. Even the store felt empty and lifeless to me.

By Wednesday morning, I couldn’t wait to call the doctor to see if Mystic could come home. I drove there as quickly as possible and felt so much joy in the examination room that I started to cry. They couldn’t bring Mystic in fast enough, and from the other side of the door; I could tell that they were having a hard time holding her back. My heart skipped a beat when I saw one vet tech holding Mystic’s lease while another supported her back legs with the sling. “Oh no, am I doing the right thing?” I asked myself as I knelt down to pet and hug Mystic.

The joy in Mystic’s eyes when she saw me washed all doubts away. The vet’s slippery tile floors made it difficult for her to walk to the car even with the support of the sling. Once in the car, she quickly settled in for the ride.

Mystic at Seeds of WellnessWe arrived at Seeds of Wellness, parked by the door and I prayed that I could get Mystic out of the car. By the time I got to the passenger door, she was already sitting up and waiting for me to open it. Using the sling, I got her easily out of the car, into the store and back by the water dish. Since she was standing without much support from the sling, I removed it and headed out of the store to bring in the rest of the items.

Surprise! I opened the store door and Mystic was looking up at me. She slowly got up to let me into the store and get ready for the day. Our normal routine included going over to the liquor store for treats and the mail. Mystic easily followed me and even tried to run. I took the sling with me in case she needed help and smiled as she received her treats and plenty of love.

I did use the sling to help her up, and we headed back to Seeds of Wellness. The warm weather allowed me to keep the front door open. Mystic quickly laid on the cool sidewalk enjoying the freedom from the vet kennel. I knew she would be fine when I realized she got up and walked over to the liquor store for more treats by herself. I found her behind the counter, lying near the treat bag.

The owner of the liquor store said, “Mystic has us all hoodwinked into thinking she can’t walk. This is her second time in here for treats.”

I didn’t even know she had snuck over there before this because she came back to the front of the store so quickly. Any doubts I had about her quality of life were gone now.

The Adequan shots continue once a week for four weeks. The pain and inflammation medication is taken as needed, which so far means daily. Vetri-E.N.S.E.D is now part of Mystic’s normal medication routine. She continues to get stronger, but the doctor said there will always be a limp and problems with the left leg.

I will continue to do what I can within my financial limitations for Mystic’s quality of life. At 12 years old, I know that Mystic’s health will someday require me to make a decision. Until then, I hope all of you enjoy seeing Mystic at Seeds of Wellness. You may have to go to her to say hello since her main activity now is sleeping.

Cleansing, Testing and Using a Pendulum

In last month’s blog, we talked about what a pendulum can tell you and how it works. Due to the limited number of movements a pendulum can make, it answers questions phrased for a yes or no response. But how do you actually use a pendulum?

Cleansing the Pendulum

Before using your pendulum for the first time, you should cleanse it because crystals and natural gemstones absorb the energy around them and can hold this energy for a long time. Listed below are several ways to cleanse your pendulum:

  • Smudge with sage, cedar or other herbs by passing the pendulum through the smoke
  • Store pendulum in a pouch or container with Citrine (a self-cleansing gemstone) and leave undisturbed for 24 hours
  • Place the pendulum in direct sunlight in the morning or late afternoon for up to 4 hours (Note: fluorite and amethyst will lose their color when exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time.)
  • Place on a windowsill or outside during a full moon and let it sit overnight.

Cleanse your pendulum periodically after your initial cleansing, especially if your pendulum is not reacting to your questions, giving inaccurate responses or has been handled by several people.

To learn more, please go to Ask Your Pendulum.

What to Do Before Asking Your Questions

How to hold pendulumThe pendulum’s chain varies in length, so there is a variety of ways you can hold it. Most people hold the top of the chain (bead or fob) between their thumb and forefinger. No matter how you hold the pendulum’s chain, you always want at least 2-3 inches of chain between your fingers and the weight.

Many people like to steady their arm by placing their elbow on a solid surface or at the side of their body. Keep your elbow bent and arch you wrist slightly to let the pendulum dangle without interference from your arm or other items.

Before asking any questions, clear you mind of worries, your future plans, what happened during your day, etc. Do your best to be in the present and most importantly “relax”.  Stay focused on the pendulum and avoid outside distractions like the TV, computer and cell phone. If you have any hunch, feeling or desire for a particular answer, you must get it out of your mind before asking the question in order for the pendulum to answer accurately.

Establish the signals for “yes”, “no” and “maybe” by asking the pendulum to show you each one. For example: say to your pendulum out loud or to yourself, “Please show me yes”. Notice the direction the pendulum swings in response to your statement. Touch the pendulum to the palm of your free hand or another surface to show the pendulum that you are finished with that statement. Do the same for “no” and “maybe”.

Testing the Pendulum for Accuracy

To be sure the pendulum is giving you accurate answers; you should first test the pendulum. This is done by saying a true statement like, “My name is ___.” And then a false statement like, “I love ____.” Be sure to touch the pendulum to the palm of your free hand or another surface before asking each question. If you are not getting the correct responses, cleanse the pendulum and keep it with you or near you as much as possible for a couple of weeks.

Ask the pendulum to show you the signals again and test it once more for accurate answers. You can also ask the pendulum, “Will you work with me today”. If the answer is no, then the pendulum will not give you accurate answers. Inaccurate answers can also be cause by being tired, not being able to focus your mind and stop thinking about other things or being too close to electronics like computers, TVs, microwaves, etc.

Some pendulum users feel it is important to say the following before asking questions or making statements to be sure the answers are not just coming from their subconscious:

I call upon the higher self to answer these questions. I seek only absolutely truthful answers, which are aligned with the highest and greatest good for all concerned. (from Ask Your Pendulum)”

How you phrase the statement for yourself is up to you. The purpose is to tap into your intuition or higher self. This statement can also help clear and focus your mind.

Getting Answers

After testing your pendulum and receiving accurate answers, you are now ready to ask it your questions or make statements by saying them aloud or mentally. Make sure you phrase your questions or statements as specifically as you can while keeping to a yes or no answer. It is best to avoid words like “should” and “suppose to”.

Concentrate on your question, not the answer you think or want to receive. The pendulum may not give you an answer right away, so be patient. If the pendulum doesn’t move after several minutes, rephrase the question.

If you would like a clearer response, say, “please be clearer” or “respond louder please”. The wider the pendulum swings, the more accurate the answer it is giving.

Before asking your next question, clear the pendulum by touching the palm of your free hand or another surface.

Ending the Session

Handmade PendulumsSome people like to thank their pendulum after the last question. How you end the session is entirely up to you.

When you are not using your pendulum, it is best to protect it by placing it in a pouch, box or other safe location. You can also wear it as a necklace. This helps the pendulum attune to your energy.

For more information about how to use a pendulum, go to the following links:

What Can a Pendulum Tell You?

Definition: “a body suspended from a fixed point so as to swing freely to and fro under the action of gravity and commonly used to regulate movements (as of clockwork)” – Merriam-Webster Dictionary

When you think of a pendulum, do you picture a grandfather clock? Pendulums have been used in timepieces since the mid 1600s. However, this is not their only purpose. Pendulums are also used to measure earth tremors, to create a child’s swing, to level items, to provide entertainment as a toy and to help with divination.

How the Pendulum Works

When you ask a pendulum a question, it may be your higher self (subconscious) or the pendulum itself that answers it through its physical movement. Your subconscious signals the muscles causing them to twitch, which results in the pendulum’s movement. Due to the limited number of movements a pendulum can make, it answers questions phrased for a yes or no response. Pendulums receive their answers from you so getting accurate information about or for someone else is unlikely.

This means that a pendulum may be anywhere from accurate to inaccurate. The challenge is clearing your mind of thoughts, both conscious and unconscious, so your emotional attachment to the question doesn’t cause the pendulum to swing in the direction that you want it to move. This is, of course, almost impossible. So what is the best use for a pendulum?

Uses for Pendulums

Handmade Pendulums

  • Making Choices: By asking the pendulum questions that result in a yes or no response, you can ask if a decision is the correct choice or not. Example, “Should I go to Hawaii for vacation”, “should I accept this job offer”, “is this financial investment going to result in an increase in money”, etc.
  • Finding Something: You can ask yes and no questions to help you find an object, pet or people. However, you can also hold the pendulum above a small area on a map (city, house, room, etc.) and ask if the item you are looking for is there. I.e., holding the pendulum above a drawing of your kitchen and asking, “Are my keys here?” and then moving to a different room on the drawing.
  • Testing Food, Drink, Vitamins, etc.: Hold the pendulum above a food and ask a yes or no question like “Is my body allergic to this”, “Is this toxic to my body” or “Is this good for me to eat”.
  • Emotional Questions: By asking questions about your emotions, you can become more aware of what you need to resolve emotionally. For instance, you can ask, “Have I resolved my issues with __”, “Do I still have guilt about ___” or “Is there still anger within me from ___”.

To learn more about the uses for pendulums go to Ask Your Pendulum.

Seeds of Wellness makes pendulums from the variety of gemstones available in the store. We can also wire wrap your personal stone to be used as a pendulum. A selection of handmade glass beaded chains allows you to personalize your pendulum, and we custom make beaded chains as well. Stop in to see our selection.

Cleaning Your Electronic Cigarette Battery

Premium Vapes electronic cigarette batteriesHave you looked at your electronic cigarette battery lately? If you have been using your electronic cigarette for several weeks and noticed you are not receiving the same performance from it that you did when you first got the kit, you may need to clean any build up that may have occurred on the end of the battery.

What Is a Clairvoyant and Psychometrist?

A clairvoyant is a person who has the ability to sense scenes and events that occurred in the past, present and could occur in the future. It has also been called ESP or the sixth sense. The use of an object connected with a person, event, or thing helps some clairvoyants focus their abilities on a particular event, person, or object. This is called psychometry.

How can an object provide information to a clairvoyant?

Wrist watchEvery object contains energy that it has gathered from its surroundings. Therefore, if you wear a watch daily, the watch collects energy from you, and the clairvoyant uses that energy to receive sounds, smells, tastes, emotions and/or mental images of the object’s history. If you carry an object with you on a regular basis, it will collect more energy and information compared to an object you use less than once a week.

Rev. Pat BeersIf an object has had multiple owners, the clairvoyant will get impressions from all the owners, which could make it difficult for the clairvoyant to separate the information they are receiving by owner. Police have used psychometrist to help them solve crimes and missing person’s cases.

Please note: No medium or psychic is 100% correct all the time.

Learn how you can meet with clairvoyant and psychometrist, Rev. Pat Beers, by visiting Seeds of Wellness Events & Services web page.

Electronic Cigarettes?

Should you consider trying an electronic cigarette?

Electronic cigarettes are not marketed as a quit smoking device. They are an alternative to smoking regular cigarettes. Unlike other smoking alternatives – electronic cigarettes perform like a regular cigarette without the flame, ash, tar, tobacco, or known carcinogens.

Premium Vapes Electronic CigarettesMost electronic cigarettes have a rechargeable battery, atomizer, cartridge and e-liquid containing water, flavoring, propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin. The strength of nicotine in the e-liquid varies. The battery heats the atomizer, which converts the e-liquid in the cartridge into a vapor as the user inhales on the cartridge. The propylene glycol turns the vapor white, so the user sees it as they exhale.

The electronic cigarette will come in three or two parts. The three part system has the battery, atomizer, and cartridge as separate parts. The user attaches the atomizer to the battery and the cartridge to the atomizer. After purchasing the kit, the user buys the atomizer and cartridges as they need them. The two part system incorporates the atomizer and the cartridge. The user screws the cartridge containing the atomizer and e-liquid onto the battery. After purchasing the kit, the user buys the refill cartridges or e-liquid depending on the type of electronic cigarette purchased.

eGo battery and clearomizersBefore purchasing a starter kit, I recommend researching the different brands online and compare the two system types to see which one will work best for you. A good website to start with is E-Cigarette Forum and Electronic Cigarette Nation.

Come into Seeds of Wellness to learn more about electronic cigarettes as a smoking alternative. We carry Premium Electronic Cigarette brand, eGo starter kits, eVo e-liquid, DuraSmoke e-liquid and electronic cigarette accessories.

Keeping Holiday Shopping Local

Seeds of Wellness dog with presentThe holidays are upon us, and the hints of snow to come are in the air.  If you are like me, you still have holiday shopping to do. This year I am shopping local businesses both store fronts and online instead of the large department stores.  I hope many of you are doing the same.

The items I love to shop for are the items that fit in stockings. As it has been said, “Good things come in small packages.” Most of my friends and family members don’t need much for their home, clothes, or vehicles, so I look for unique items that take up little space, can be carried, or only last for a short period of time.

Handmade gifts at Seeds of WellnessThese items include CDs, incense, candles, handmade home decor items, teas, etc.  Gift cards also make a wonderful gift. I know I love receiving gift cards for grocery stores and gas stations.  Handmade gifts are also fun to give because they are unique and say more than a manufactured product. I love to see the look on peoples faces at the sight of a stocking full of gifts.

So take the stress out of the holiday shopping by starting now while there are still several days before Christmas. There is nothing worse than fighting with crowds of last minute shoppers and finding most of the items gone or limited.

Need help locating that perfect unique gift? Come into Seeds of Wellness and let us help you find gifts both big and small for the people you love.
